The Top Five Geeky Christmas Specials
You've all heard of Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman; these are the specials that make us go "Yo," man.
Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion - Evil Santa-bots, sword-fighting and the first full episode to feature David Tennant in the role that has defined his career ever since. Proof that good gifts come in big blue boxes.
The Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special - Those aren't red pills - they're holiday M&Ms - but take one and you'll feel like you've entered a bizarre matrix, one in which Morpheus has long stringy hair and dresses like a cowboy.
A Claymation Christmas Celebration - Blame Rankin-Bass for making us associate stop-motion with Christmas specials; thank Will Vinton, inventor and trademark-holder of the word "Claymation," for doing it best. The California Raisins' rendition of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" guides and slays us every time.
Community Christmas Special - Speaking of clay and stop-motion, we like it just as much when it's being used ironically. Especially if a seasonal pterodactyl is involved.
Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics - Who else but Trey Parker and Matt Stone could get a song about a talking turd to #8 on the UK pop charts? And that's one of the less offensive numbers from this South Park Christmas special and its tie-in album, which delights in reminding the listener of imminent death and the technicalities of being a virgin.
