The Voice of Superman
NCIS's Mark Harmon faces the task of speaking like the Man of Steel
The latest DC Universe Animated Original, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, hits streets today, and the scope is big. The league goes to war against a gang of evil doppelgangers in an alternate universe, and if they lose, all Earths will perish.
To match that epic size, Warner Bros. and DC were looking for a big name to voice the role of Superman, and the wish list was short. They needed someone who would convey truth and honesty, but also power and compassion.
“I fell in love with Mark Harmon,” says casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano. “Although he’s older in years than how we typically portray Superman, his voice with the model was right on.”
NCIS’s Harmon leads an all-star cast that includes Chris Noth as Lex Luthor, William Baldwin as Batman and James Woods as the evil doppelganger version of Batman.
“When I was growing up,” says Harmon, “in the neighborhood group, if you had a choice to play Jimmy Olson or Superman, you wanted to play Superman. I certainly saw it as different than the character I play and what I do daily on [NCIS]. It’s a pleasure to do it but it's a job, you just try and do well.”
