Timber Timepieces – Woody Watches

How much time would a wood clock clock?

Remember that episode of Futurama in which the surly robot Bender went retro and switched to a body made entirely of wood? Though he chucked it by episode’s end, the look was so cool it spawned its own action figure. "Wooden" it be nice if today’s gadgets could look as good as yesterday’s artisan-made antiques?

WeWood nails that ambition with a selection of stylish watches hewn from trees. "But wait," you say, "doesn’t this kill the forest?" Actually, no; many of these watches are made out of wooden flooring leftovers that normally go to waste. On top of that, for each timepiece WeWood sells, the company plants a new tree.

While the look of the wood evokes heavily finished or stained pieces, the company says that there are no toxic elements in the components that make up the exteriors of the watches. As a result, you get less noxious e-waste in the long term. Plus, if you happen to drop it in the water - not that you should - it’ll float.

We gotta think that the sensation of wearing a WeWood watch is probably quite novel compared to a cold, stainless steel chronograph. Ask anyone: wood feels good.
