Spellboy
For Ron Perlman, life's a Witch, then ya die. And what of Hellboy 3?
GCD: This past weekend, Season of The
Witch hit theaters. What should we know about your part in it?
Ron Perlman: My character is interested
in the three B's: booze, broads, and bloodshed. He’s a complete man of mayhem. Nicholas Cage’s
character is the opposite: he has a well-articulated sense of justice and a clear moral compass. But because they're knights
they would sacrifice their lives for one another, which makes for a rather
interesting pairing.
GCD: You're known for genre films that require heavy makeup. Could we ever see you in a straight-up comedy?
RP: The thing that I’m most proud of
is that on the occasions I do put on the makeup, it’s for characters that I find
important to play, characters that I admire for their heart and nobility. As for comedy, I just finished a movie called Frankie Go Boom, which is, I think, one of the funniest scripts I've read in twenty years.
GCD: We want to see you work with
Guillermo Del Toro again. Has there been any talk of Hellboy 3?
RP: There hasn’t been any talk
lately. I really do hope for the sake of the audience that they get a chance to
see it because it’s really dark and it's amazingly compelling.
We’ve got twins on the way at the end of Hellboy
2. Will they come out more like Hellboy, or Liz? Human or demon? I gotta tell you, Guillermo’s take on that is really interesting.
So, no Hellboy 3 (for now)...but you can get your Perlman fix in Season of The
Witch, currently in theaters.
