Scott Pilgrim: Game Over
Life is not a video game, unless you're Scott Pilgrim.
While we all know
dating sometimes feels like a land war in Asia, in Scott
Pilgrim's world, dating goes hand-in-hand with heavy combat. To paraphrase the great
philosopher Pat Benatar: Love is a comic book battlefield.
But today the
battle ends with the publication of the sixth and final Scott Pilgrim comic, Scott
Pilgrim’s Finest Hour. As anyone who has seen the trailer to the upcoming
Michael Cera movie adaptation knows, Bryan Lee O’Malley’s tale of kung-fu
craziness finds super-slacker Scott forced to literally fight off his
girlfriend's previous exes: super-Vegans, terrible twins, even the
ultimate karate kick to the crotch, his girlfriend's ex-girlfriend.
Which brings us
to the final chapter in the comic book series. After being subjected to every
geeky challenge from living with a girl to finding and keeping a job, Scott
thought he had it all figured out. Then, at the end of Book Five, the
unthinkable happened. SPOILER ALERT: We are not going to spoil what that unthinkable
thing is.
Instead, go grab
the comics and find out for yourself. Otherwise you’re
going to have to wait 24 whole days for the movie to come out.
