MacGruber: Return of the Action Mullet

There’s something missing from today’s modern action movie—and it isn’t Steven Seagal.

When Will Forte storms theaters as the bumbling, death-prone soldier of fortune, MacGruber tomorrow, May 21st, he’ll bring with him the return of an action movie staple that was once a prerequisite to kicking butt: The Mullet.

Those long, luscious hero locks have fallen out of favor with today’s close-cropped leading men, and American action cinema has suffered as a consequence. When you head to the theater this weekend, just imagine how deadly Jason Bourne would have been with the business up front and a party in the back. Or Tony Stark in a Tennessee Top Hat? Now, that would be some serious heavy metal.

Here’s to hoping MacGruber’s neck duster is just the first of many to carry on this tradition of follicular excellence. In the meantime, join GCD in toasting the greatest action mullets of all-time:

# 4 Mel Gibson as Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon

# 3 Patrick Swayze as Dalton in Road House

# 2 Kiefer Sutherland as David in The Lost Boys

# 1 Jean-Claude Van Damme
as Chance Boudreaux in Hard Target
