Where Jules Verne Meets Science

Explore a world that’s bigger than brass.

Steampunk’s most appealing side may be its visual one, and its best foot is forward here. MUZEO has art, fashion designs, literature and props from a Jules Verne-themed theater troupe.  Apparently, there’s also a brass-skinned elephant in the room. What? There had to be brass somewhere. You can explore the experience until February 12th. Take curiosity with you, but leave your raygun at home.

Pop culture has muddied the waters, but fortunately, MUZEO’s Steampunk: History Beyond Imagination exhibit is setting the record about this genre straight. The Great Age of Steam was packed with remarkable achievements such as the birth of flight, worldwide communication and transportation advances. You know, no big deal. Writers like Edgar Allan Poe and H.G. Wells inspired actual scientists with their science fiction (and yet, we still don’t have jetpacks). The Kickstarter-funded exhibit encompasses the discoveries and the geniuses behind them to create a cohesive and educational experience. They probably won’t judge you if you show up in attire straight from a League of S.T.E.A.M. video. Maybe they’ll even make you an interactive part of the display.

If you think steampunk is only about gears and aged metals, it’s time to immerse yourself in history. The Victorian era brimmed over with forward thinkers who pushed ideas that moved society ahead. They also happened to dress with style and flair. The influence of this not-so-long-ago time persists in some modern day marvels. The genre has a far reach.
