30 Years of Awesome!

For over 30 years, Heavy Metal has been THE international illustrated fantasy magazine.  The first issue hit newsstands in April of 1977 and introduced American audiences to the work of Europe's greatest graphic artists.

A smash hit from its launch, the magazine sold out all across the country, striking a chord with hundreds of thousands of fans and becoming a magnet for world class comic talent.  In addition to the top shelf European artists and writers such as Mobius, Liberatore, Serpieri, Gimenez, and Royo, all of the best American and British creators like Bode, Corben, Wrightson, Frazetta, Eastman and Bisley found a new outlet for their fantasies.

Since its debut, Heavy Metal Magazine has been the publication to find deliciously dark science-fiction-themed art.  Today it also offers online access to decades of back issues and merchandise, free galleries and an artists’ arena.  There is also a full historic cover gallery showcasing every issue ever published and an advanced search capability that lets you search by artists name to find every Heavy Metal issue or book they've been in.
