Randy Couture's Geek Guilty Pleasures

GCD's Exclusive Q&A With the Expendables Star

You want action? Fine. When we reached out to a real-life action hero, the five-time UFC Champ Randy Couture, he was hunting wild boars in darkest Oklahoma. With a bow.  Ever seen a wild boar? They can weigh 500lbs.

In the highly-anticipated action flick The Expendables, out in theaters today, Couture plays a mercenary named Toll Road. “If you’re gonna get past me, you’ll have to pay,” he explained.  Before getting our ticket punched, GCD pleaded with Couture to let loose his geek guilty pleasures:

Highlander
Highlander was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I like period pieces with an action adventure angle like that or Gladiator. Plus I got to work with the director, Russell Mulcahy, when I did Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior. That was really cool. I asked him a bunch of questions about Highlander, but he actually didn’t remember much because it was so long ago.”

Taken
“My pick for my favorite onscreen fight changes all the time. Right now I think what Liam Neeson did in Taken—torturing those clowns in Paris—was pretty damn cool. There was a directness in his approach to the situations. Frankly, he wasn’t f*cking around. It was over.”

Star Trek
“I grew up watching Star Trek every Sunday. How can you not like Captain Kirk? He was the coolest guy out there. Plus he always got the girl.”

Expendables On-Set GeekOut
“I don’t know if anyone on set didn’t have that moment. There was almost a giddiness among the crew. The first night in Rio we’re invading this palace and this whole team came together, we’re in this open field getting ready to invade.  All the guys were together for the first time for this scene and it was pretty interesting. Like I can’t believe I’m standing here.”
