Don’t fear the reaper. Annihilate him

Brütal Legend is a video-game death ride through heavy-metal hell

Attention headbangers: Safely combine your twin loves of heavy metal and violence with 100 percent fewer self-inflicted concussions. Today, EA invites PS3 and 360 owners to ride the lightning of its new rock-themed hack-n-slasher, Brütal Legend.

The game stars the famous pipes of Tenacious D front man and sometimes actor, Jack Black, as Eddie Riggs—the greatest roadie on Earth. After injuring himself in a guitar-tuning accident, Eddie is transported to a mythical ancient world in which humans are enslaved by supernatural overlords. Naturally, it falls to Eddie to save mankind, which is where you’ll pitch with a battle axe, a fire-spewing guitar and a hotrod awesomely nicknamed “The Druid Plow.” The Grim Reaper and a motorcycle-strapped demon called Kill Master are just two of the bosses you’ll contend with along the way.

The soundtrack boasts more than 100 metal masterpieces, both classic and contemporary, but also keep your ears peeled for voice work by Judas Priest’s Rob Halford, Motörhead’s Lemmy and the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy O.

To prep for battle, we recommend a crash course in the following: Black Sabbath’s Paranoid, Iron Maiden’s Number of the Beast, Metallica’s Master of Puppets, Def Leppard’s Pyromania and Slayer’s Reign in Blood. Listen. Conquer evil. Repeat.
