Amalgam-action Figures

Like music, toys are now getting the mash-up treatment. Here are combos we’d love to see!

Show of hands—how many of our fellow action figure fans out there made it down to the D23 Expo (a convention celebrating all things Disney) in Anaheim last fall? For the few of you who did, we hope you got your hands on one of Sideshow/MINDstyle’s super-sci-fi-riffic 10” V.I.N.CENT/Tron mash-up figures being given out to those in attendance. If not, looks like you’ll be saving up quite a bit of your allowance if you wanna get your sweaty mitts on one (list price: $124.99).

Naturally, your buddies here at GCD can’t let something as cool as a mash-up figure featuring two of Disney’s more cult-y sci-fi films go without asking, “Hey, what other properties would make for cool toy combos?” That being said, here’s a few action figure amalgamations we’d love to see posed on our bookshelves.

STAR WARS/STAR TREK
Most geeks have long ago chosen a side between these two sci-fi epics. But give us Yoda in some Starfleet garb or a Millennium Falcon/Enterprise combo, and we’ll be right there with the swarm at Toys R Us.

TRANSFORMERS/G.I. JOE We’ve seen some close calls on this, but how about some to-scale Transformers that we can put our Joe and Cobra figures in? This is bound to make for some cool redesigns of classic characters from both brands.

BARBIE/“CELEBUTARDS” Much to the chagrin of all you Waylon Smitherses out there, for the rest of us, how funny would it be to see a line of Barbies dressed in designer fashions that are covered in the grime of three day benders? Plus, Barbies are already built not being able to stand, so we’re halfway there as is!
