Nerdbytes: Superman Unbound

The First Doctor returns, YouTube stars go bowling and Greendale sends greetings

This week, the BBC announced the stars of its Doctor Who docudrama, the trailer for Superman Unbound debuted to John Williams-level fanfare, Chris Hardwick bowled with and against some of YouTube's biggest stars and the new season of Community got teased. Nerdbytes is here and is part of a well-balanced diet.

Nerdist Exclusive: Superman Unbound Trailer Premiere  - Superman Unbound, the next in Warner Brothers and DC's long and lauded line of direct-to-DVD superhero movies, still doesn't have a release date, but it does have a trailer you can watch right now. The film, based on Geoff Johns' 2008 Action Comics story arc, finds the Man of Steel squaring off against the planet-destroying alien machine, Brainiac, while balancing his responsibilities to Lois Lane and cousin Kara (nee Supergirl).  The fantastic voice cast includes White Collar's Matt Bomer as Superman, Fringe's John Noble as Brainiac and Castle's Stana Katic and Molly Quinn as Lois and Kara, respectively. That's a cast even Mr. Mxyzptlk could agree with.

YouTube All-Stars Become Bowling All-Stars - It's an internet programming pile-up as seven YouTube titans join Chris Hardwick for another edition of All Star Celebrity Bowling. For Team Nerdist this week, Freddie Wong and Barely Political (Todd Womack and Mark Douglas) join Chris to take on Team Rooster Teeth (Burnie Burns, Geoff Ramsey, Gus Sorola and Gavin Free). There's White Russians at 10am, deviant fun with sculpting clay, old people zombies, special effects and, yes, some bowling too. Not much, though. For all the insanity, check out the Nerdist Channel and, for pity's sake, don't put Play-Doh in a bowling ball.

BBC Announces Cast of Doctor Who Telemovie - The main cast for the BBC's 90-minute movie about the creation of Doctor Who, called An Adventure in Space and Time, has been announced and landing the lead role as the man who would be the First Doctor, William Hartnell, is Harry Potter's Argus Filch, David Bradley. This is excellent casting if you ask us. Joining him will be Brian Cox (X2) as the show's creator Sydney Newman, Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife) as the show's first producer (and first female producer at the BBC), Verity Lambert and Sacha Dhawan (History Boys) as the show's first director, Waris Hussein. Can they just go ahead and cast the other Doctors for the sequel now?

Community Teaser Promises "Senioritis" - We're inching closer and closer to October 19th...er, February 7th, and that means (finally!) the return of NBC's Community. A very brief clip from the first episode has been released as a teaser and depicts the study group (minus Joel McHale and still plus Chevy Chase) discussing what will be their senior year at Greendale Community College. Annie and Shirley have decided to have "Senioritis" and become merry mischief makers, which can only mean adorable terror for everyone around. Troy and Abed conspicuously have no dialogue in the scene, leading us to believe it's all a Blorgon plot to destroy Inspector Spacetime.
